When to pick, what to expect.
ORTH counts heat accumulation per plot, writes the harvest call to the block, checks quality against your own standard, and sends a report with every shipment.
Maturity is judged by eye. Nobody counts heat accumulation per plot by hand across a whole farm, so a table-grape block running early or a wheat field maturing ahead of the window is found when someone walks it.
At the line, a grader applies the standard from memory and types the result up afterwards. Sales gets the fruit without the field record. ORTH counts the heat per plot, writes the pick call to the block and sends the record with the fruit.
The pick call, built from the block and cleared for the buyer.
Six things ORTH works out between the degree day and the shipment.
Heat accumulation per plot
Growing degree days build per plot from your station record and the planting or flowering date. A block running early against its window is flagged before the crew or the combine is booked.
Maturity against your standard
Brix, acidity, firmness, colour, dry matter or grain moisture, whichever your crop and buyer use. ORTH reads the field readings against your harvest standard and calls the block ready, close, or not yet.
Pre-harvest interval clearance
Every pick date is checked against the last application’s pre-harvest interval for the destination market. A load inside its interval is held, and the earliest cleared date is written to the block.
Weather on the pick
Rain before the pick, heat during it, wind on the day: ORTH reads the forecast against the harvest window and moves the call forward or back, with the reason shown.
Crew sized from the work
The pick call goes out as assigned actions per block, with the crew size from your standard rates. Completions come back with what was picked, what was left, and why.
The record travels with the fruit
Accumulated heat, the harvest decision, the season’s applications and the quality call at the line: one report per shipment, built from the block record, reaching sales with the fruit.
The pick call traced from the degree day to the shipment.
ORTH writes the pick date, the reasoning and the quality call to the block and sends them with the fruit.
ORTH counts degree days per plot
ORTH builds growing degree days per plot from your station record and flags a citrus block running early against its window, or a corn field maturing ahead of plan, before the crew or the combine is booked.
Write the harvest call to the block
The pick date, its constraints and the reasoning are written to the plot record. Anyone on the team traces the decision later.
Clear it for the buyer
ORTH checks rain before the pick, heat during it, and any application still inside its pre-harvest interval against the destination market, and marks the window as likely or cleared.
Check quality against your standard
A photo at the line returns the grade against your written standard and the reason. The defect report is built from the calls made. ORTH runs alongside your quality system at the line.
Send the record with the fruit
ORTH builds a report per shipment from the block’s record: accumulated heat, the harvest decision, the applications and the packhouse call. It reaches the sales team with the fruit.
The pick date, traced and cleared.
Harvest value is revenue: loads cleared before they are cut, pick dates traced to the block, and yield gained.
Every pick date checked against the last application’s pre-harvest interval for the destination market, so a table-grape or citrus load is cleared before it is cut.
Accumulated heat, the harvest decision, the applications and the packhouse call travel with the shipment. A quality question on arrival is answered from the block record.
Among surveyed growers who quantified a yield change, most reported improvements in the 5 to 15 and 15 to 30 per cent ranges.
−7% forecast in May. −6% delivered in November.
In May 2025, ORTH's yield forecast for Atsas read seven percent below the prior year, reflecting a cooler bloom and weaker fruit set. The team adjusted logistics and pre-sold appropriately. The harvest came in at six percent below. The forecast held within one point across six months.
"We made the calls in May we used to make in October. The whole season was easier."
Ripe on the block, still inside the pre-harvest interval.
A block has reached size and colour. Firmness is slipping, rain is forecast, and a recent spray is still inside its pre-harvest interval. ORTH pulls the quality readings, the weather, the irrigation history, the application record and the destination market together. It lists the constraints, shows what is safe to change, and marks the harvest window as likely or fully cleared.
